What Is the Formula for Kelvin to Rankine?

The Rankine temperature scale expresses temperature in degrees Rankine (°R) and is related to the Kelvin scale (K) through the following equation:

T(°R) = T(K) * 9/5

In the Rankine scale, the temperature in degrees Rankine (°R) is obtained by multiplying the temperature in Kelvin (K) by the fraction 9/5.

Example

Let’s say you have a scorching summer day and the temperature is recorded as 35 degrees Celsius. To convert this value to Rankine, you need to convert it to Kelvin first. The formula to convert Celsius to Kelvin is K = C + 273.15. So, 35 degrees Celsius in Kelvin is 35 + 273.15 = 308.15 K. Now, to convert Kelvin to Rankine, you use the formula R = K × 9/5. Therefore, 308.15 K in Rankine is 308.15 × 9/5 = 554.67 R. So, on this sweltering day, the temperature would be approximately 554.67 degrees Rankine.
