DC Volts to Watts Calculation Formula

P(W) = V(V)× I(A), where

P(W) – power in watts (W),

V(V) – voltage in volts (V),

I(A) – electric current in amps (A).

Example.

Let’s say you have a DC circuit with a voltage of 12 volts and a current of 2 amperes. To calculate the power in watts, you would use the formula:

P(W) = 12 volts x 2 A = 24 W

AC Single Phase Volts to Watts Calculation Formula

P(W) = PF × I(A)× V(V), where

P(W) – power in watts (W),

PF – power factor (within 0 to 1),

I(A) – phase current in amps (A),

V(V) – RMS voltage in volts (V).

Example.

Let’s say you have a single-phase AC circuit with a voltage of 120 volts, a current of 5 amperes, and a power factor of 0.8. To calculate the power in watts, you would use the formula:

P(W) = 120 V x 5 A x 0.8 = 480 W

AC Three Phase Volts to Watts Calculation Formula

Calculation with Line to Line Voltage

P(W) = √3 × PF × I(A)× VL-L(V), where

P(W) – power in watts (W),

PF – power factor (within 0 to 1),

I(A) – phase current in amps (A),

VL-L(V) – line to line RMS voltage in volts (V).

Example.

Let’s say you have a three-phase AC circuit with a line-to-line voltage of 208 volts, a current of 10 amperes, a power factor of 0.85. To calculate the power in watts, you would use the formula:

P(W) = √3 * 208 volts x 10 amperes x 0.85 = 3.0622 watts

Calculation with Line to Neutral Voltage

P(W) = 3 × PF × I(A) × VL-N(V), where

P(W) – power in watts (W),

PF – power factor (within 0 to 1),

I(A) – phase current in amps (A),

VL-N(V) – line to neutral RMS voltage (V).
