VA to kW Calculation

The real power P in kilowatts (kW) is equal to the apparent power S in volt-amps (VA), times the power factor PF divided by 1000:

P(kW) =  S(VA) × PF / 1000

For example, follow this example to convert 60 VA with a power factor of 0.85 to kilowatts.

P(kW) = 600 VA × 0.85 / 1,000 = 0.51 kW

Volt-Amps to Kilowatts Conversion Table

here’s a table that shows the conversion from volt-amps (VA) to kilowatts (kW) for a power factor of 0.8, using values ranging from 1000 to 100000 VA:

Volt-amps to kilowatts conversion table

This table assumes a power factor of 0.8, which means that the actual power delivered is 80% of the apparent power (VA). To convert VA to kW, we simply divide the VA by 1000 and multiply by the power factor (0.8). For example, to convert 5000 VA to kW:

5000 VA / 1000 * 0.8 = 4 kW

So 5000 VA is equivalent to 4 kW with a power factor of 0.8.
